Raymond Gendreau Obituary

Lowell

Raymond Dale Gendreau, 61, of Lowell, passed away after a courageous battle against Covid-19 at Lowell General Hospital. Ray graduated from Lowell High School in 1978 and was a standout football player for the (Red) Raiders as a fiercely talented defensive tackle. He attended the University of Lowell and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, honorably serving on the aircraft carrier, the USS Nimitz. Upon his return from the Navy, Ray worked as an engineer at Sanders Corporation and operated his own computer business for many years.

Among his many hobbies, Ray enjoyed all sports, particularly golf. He also had an amazing gift for playing cards and was nearly impossible to beat, especially games such as 45's, hearts, whist, and poker. Ray had a big personality that matched his well developed sense of humor and very generous heart. He enjoyed being the host of family gatherings and loved to cook on the grill for everyone. Ray will be greatly missed by us all.

He was the son of the late Della (Vourloumis) Cook and the late Raymond Gendreau and is survived by two children, a son, Raymond and his wife Krystal Gendreau, a daughter, Rachel Gendreau, and two grandchildren, Noah and Dorothy Gendreau. He is also survived by his stepfather Robert Cook of Lowell, one brother, Steve Gendreau of Lowell, and three sisters; Julie Hill of Dracut, Lisa (Belle) Gendreau of Lowell, and Roberta and husband, Keith Fillmore, of Tewksbury. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ray is predeceased by his two sisters, Vanessa (Hill) Gonzalez, Marie Hill, and one brother, Peter Hill.

HIS FUNERAL SERVICES WILL TAKE PLACE PRIVATELY ON TUESDAY AUGUST 31, 2021 FROM 11 A.M. UNTIL 12 P.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL, MA 01852, 978-458-6816. I didn't know Ray personally, but do remember him at Lowell High School. He was always friendly and polite. A very nice guy. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.
