Roberta McGuire Obituary

Loving Wife and Mother

Westford

Roberta Hale McGuire, 62, passed away on Monday, Nov. 1, 2021 at her home in Westford, surrounded by her family after a courageous fight with glioblastoma. For 34 years, she was the beloved wife of Kevin C. McGuire.

She was born in Winchester, MA on June 27, 1959, a daughter of the late Robert and Helen (Dwyer) Hale. Roberta grew up in Reading and was a resident of Westford for the past 30 years.

Roberta was active in town activities while living in Westford as an advocate for affordable housing, accessibility of public spaces, and the arts. She served on several town committees, including the Westford Historical Commission, the Westford Council on Aging, the Permanent Town Building Committee, and the Town Farm Task Force, and was a founding member of the Nashoba Youth Orchestra. Earlier in her life, she was employed as a program manager with Honeywell in Billerica and Digital Equipment Corp in Maynard and Nashua. She enjoyed hiking, photography, and gardening. She lived her life with brilliance, compassion, and integrity, and was deeply committed to her family and community.

Besides her husband Kevin, she is survived by her son, Patrick C. McGuire of Boston; her siblings, Catherine Kosta and her husband Edward of Reading, Robert Hale and his wife Nancy of Westminster, and James Hale of Holmdel, NJ; also many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Constance Davidson and Richard Hale.

Roberta was a shining light of compassion for others and for the environment. She worked with others to save many parcels of conservation land in Westford. And she championed handicapped access to trails. Her careful and detailed research on all projects was invaluable. We will miss her so much!
