Roger Toothaker Obituary

Roger A. Toothaker, Jr. retired Billerica businessman, WWII vet; 85 EPSOM, NH Roger A. Toothaker, Jr., 85, died Wednesday, April 9th. He was born in Worcester on April 5, 1923, to Roger and Linda (Wiggins) Toothaker. He grew up in Tewksbury. Mr. Toothaker was a World War II Army veteran, assigned to the 117th General Hospital in Bristol, England. He was a successful Golden Gloves contender in the Lowell area prior to enlisting and participated in boxing matches as entertainment for the troops overseas, once fighting in an undercard exhibition headlined by Joe Louis. He made his living as a self-employed carpenter, general contractor, and real estate developer in Billerica where he and his wife Gloria raised their family. After retiring, they made their home in Epsom, NH for more than 30 years, and wintered in Florida. Mr. Toothaker was a member of the American Legion Post #112 in Epsom. He was an avid fan of both the Red Sox and the Patriots, loved to golf, bowl, and fish with his dog, Dusty, and enjoyed tending his large vegetable garden. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gloria (Johnson) Toothaker; three children, Janice Greenleaf , Carol Toothaker, and William Toothaker, all of NH; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jay Johnson and his wife, Virginia of Billerica, Jon Johnson and Jo Ellen Carr, both of Lowell, and Christine Johnson of Danvers. TOOTHAKER A private celebration of his life will be held by the family with a graveside service taking place later this spring in the McClary Cemetery in Epsom.
