CHELMSFORD - Thomas L. Ryan, of Chelmsford, formerly of Lowell, passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018 following a period of declining health.

He was born in Lowell on October 4, 1931 a son of the late John and Anna (Brown) Ryan. He attended Lowell schools and graduated from Lowell High in 1949, received his B.S. Ed degree from Lowell State College and his Master's degree from Fitchburg State College.

After many years of teaching in Lowell, Tom retired to pursue many interests, one of which was playing the bagpipes. He was an avid reader and enjoyed attending and participating in many Chelmsford "Poetry Slams".

Tom was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Lowell Division, a life member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks, and a member of the Lowell Historical Society.

He leaves Joan, his wife of 55 years, a sister-in-law Monica and her daughter Peta, of Nashua, NH and a niece Carol Devellian and her husband Leo and their son, Bode, of Topsfield. Among his favorite people were his sisters-in-law Elaine Chase and Eileen LaDuke and her husband Roy.

He was predeceased by his brothers John and George Ryan of Lowell and William Ryan of Nashua.

RYAN - It being his request, visitation has been omitted and funeral services will be held privately.
