Bernard Leo Kaczmarek, age 95, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, in La Porte, Indiana.
Bernard was born on June 22, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to Vincent and Helen (Swiatkewicz) Kaczmarek, who preceded him in death.
Bernard married the love of his life, Julia (Baird) Kaczmarek, on June 18, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois, who precedes him in death.
He is survived by his children, Shawn Kaczmarek of Michigan City, Indiana, Vince (Cheryl) Kaczmarek of Michigan City, Indiana, and Greg (Vicki) Kaczmarek of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and grandchildren, Crystal Kaczmarek of Portage, Indiana, and Brett and Josh Kaczmarek of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Bernard was a Decorated Combat Infantry Soldier who served in World War II in the 25th Division Tropic Lightning and also served as a Pathfinder in the 11th Airborne. He received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star and Army of Occupation Medal from Japan.
Once returning home, Ben became an electrical engineer. He married Julia, worked for RCA, Zenith and Motorola. He started his own manufacturing business before moving his family to Michigan City in 1970. He will truly be missed by family and friends.

Friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington Street, Michigan City, IN, 46360. There will be an additional visitation on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
