David Meyer Obituary

David Alfred Meyer Sr., age 84, a lifelong resident of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

Dave was born on July 2, 1939, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Alfred and Thelma (Neulieb) Meyer, who preceded him in death.

Dave was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Joe Ann (Frye) Meyer, whom he met in New Buffalo, Michigan, working at Clean Towel Service.

Dave is survived by his three children, David A. (Beth) Meyer Jr. of Virginia, Deborah (Chad) Wallace of Georgia and Deanna (Russell) Thomas of Michigan City; his seven grandchildren he was always so proud of, David A. (Kayla) Meyer III of Wisconsin, Matthew (Shelby) Meyer of Krakow, Poland, Adam (Audrey) Rouse of Washington, Evan Koss of Union Mills, Emily Koss of La Porte, Marguerite (Craig) Welsh of Union Mills and Russell Thomas II of Michigan City. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Aida and David A. Meyer IV, Millie, Ford and Emilia Meyer and Quentin and Olive Rouse.

Dave was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Meyer.

Dave has always lived in Michigan City where he raised his family. He graduated from Elston High School – Class of 1957.

Dave was a small business owner in Michigan City. He had two laundromats and a laundry equipment distribution business. He loved to fish, whether on his bass boat or on Lake Michigan for coho and perch. Dave loved to take his family out on Lake Michigan for fishing, skiing or just for a cruise to a random port and even through the locks in Chicago. He also had a love of classic cars and enjoyed going to car shows.

Dave was proud that he attended Purdue University West Lafayette and was proud that his three children attended, as well as two grandchildren.

Dave loved the fact that he and his wife had visited all 50 states, and the majority of those trips were with his family in their Winnebago. He even drove that Winnebago to the top of Pikes Peak.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington Street, Michigan City, IN 46360. There will be a private burial for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels or Dunes Hospice in his wife's name: Joe Ann Meyer.

I was terribly saddened to hear about Dave. I worked for him for a short time & always thought he was a great guy. He lived a good long life & my prayers are with his family.
