James Beglin Obituary

It is with shattered hearts and deep sadness that the family of James H. Beglin, born Sept. 8, 1970, announces his passing on Nov. 10, 2022, at age 52.

Jim died peacefully at home with his wife, Valerie, and daughter, Natalie, at his side. Jim and Val's son, Jonathan, was granted time by the U.S. Navy to be with his father prior to Jim's death.

Jim is survived by his mother, Arlene Beglin of Beverly Shores; brother, Rob Beglin (wife Susan) of Hamilton, Ohio; sister, Kristen Jacobucci (husband David) of Beverly Shores; and mother-in-law, Brenda Martin, and sister-in-law, Amy Larson (husband Todd) of St. Louis. Nieces and nephews include Michael and Dana Jacobucci, RJ, Aaron and Anna Beglin, and Cory (wife Kimberly) and Abby Larson.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Beglin; and father-in-law, Robert A. Martin.

He was a man of honesty and integrity. He adored and was the fiercest defender of his children, family and friends. His favorite places were at the beach and on the water. Fishing on the lake or ocean was a favorite activity. He had hoped to retire with Val to Key West.

Jim never liked to do what he felt was expected; he much preferred to surprise you. He hated people, but was the life of the party. He couldn't say he was sorry out loud, but he would buy you a new car to show it. He wouldn't shut up about how annoying his dogs were, but he was the first one to take them for a golf cart ride, or hold a full conversation with them when he thought no one could hear.

While we may not know where he is now, we can be certain of a few things: He is with his dad; they're on the beach drinking cocktails; and throwing a stick for his dog, Lucy.

The family is choosing not to focus on Jim's death, but to celebrate a life well-lived. Friends affectionately called Jim "Triple Dog Jim," for the three dogs he loved, but did not want when they first came home.

In the spirit of that, please consider donating in his name to Michiana Humane Society in Michigan City, Indiana, at michianapets.org.

A Celebration of Life reception will be held at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Indiana, on Friday, Nov. 18, from 4 to 9 p.m. Please join us in celebrating Jim's beautiful life.

Root Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

My condolences to The Beglin Family. I met Jim while working as a Police Officer in the Town of Beverly Shores. Jim was remodeling houses that needed a lot of care. After talking for a short time, Jim and I kind of hit it off. We shared stories about our lives and family. Jim was the nicest guy and we would meet on other occassions while around Town. Didn't know Jim very long before he passed away but really enjoyed talking with him and sharing stories. I would definetly call him a friend and enjoyed our conversations. He will truly be missed.
