Judy was born Feb. 19, 1943, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Phillip Kienitz and Margaret (Kecse) Kienitz, both of whom also preceded her in death.
On March 8, 1963, Judy married Jack Hughes, whom also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Chad E. (Judi) Hughes of Michigan City; daughter, Alona (Matt) Parcels of Aurora, Illinois; a grandson; and a granddaughter, Scarlett Rose Parcels; and one sister, Sue (Jerry) Schmaltz of West Lafayette, Indiana.
Judy graduated from Elston High School in 1961. After graduating, she worked for Sears in their credit department at the old Sears building at the corner of Franklin and 8th Street in Michigan City where she met her best friend, Darlene Johnson, who also preceded her in death. Judy met her husband, Jack, at the Michigan City Beach where she spent a lot of time in the summers with Darlene.
Judy moved to Fort Rucker, Alabama, in 1967 where Jack completed basic training, and they lived on the Fort Rucker Military Base together as he served in the U.S Army. Jack went off to Vietnam as a helicopter pilot for the 1st Calvary Division from 1968 to 1969. When Jack returned from the Vietnam War, they welcomed their first son, Chad, in 1970. They moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, in the early '70s where Jack finished college at Western Michigan University and Judy had an in-home daycare. They made many long-lasting friends in Kalamazoo and wonderful memories.
In 1975, Judy and Jack bought and built their first home in Michigan City where Judy lived for 48 years with many of the same neighbors that became like family. Judy was a homemaker with a passion for decorating and antiques. She loved writing letters to family and friends, and sharing photos of her children and grandchildren, who she absolutely adored.
Judy was very strong and brave battling cancer since 2019. Judy truly loved life and will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

So sorry to see Judy has left us. She was always fun to see every year for her yearly filter change on her drinking system.
She would always share pictures of her granddaughter and talk about you Chad all the time.
She will be missed.
