Nancy M. Long, 87, of Michigan City passed away on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, at Franciscan Health Michigan City.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Root Funeral Home with Deacon Michael Green officiating. Private family inurnment will take place in Saint Stanislaus Cemetery at a later date. Viewing will be held on Monday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Nancy was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Steven and Marie (Janota) Worobec.
On Sept. 21, 1957, in Chicago Heights, Illinois, she married Norman Long, who is surviving in Michigan City after 66 years of marriage.
Also surviving are three daughters, Karen Byers, Theresa Lawson and Christine (Ray) Bennitt; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Judy Simali; one brother, Steven (Monica) Worobec; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Long; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by one son, David Long; son-in-law, Don Lawson; and brother-in-law, Roger Simali.
Nancy worked at Al's Deli, the cafeteria at St. Anthony Hospital, and was the former owner/operator of the Wooden Nickel Restaurant.
She was a member of Queen of All Saints Church and loved feeding the birds and squirrels. She collected teddy bears and angels. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
