Ronald Eugene Walters, 62, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024.
He was born to the late Berneda (Hillebrand) and Harold Walters. On May 26, 1984, he married his beloved wife, Paula Walters (Handtke), who survives. He was a faithful and loving husband to Paula, having recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
Ron is also survived by his children, Brandon (Kristi) Walters and Jake (Katie) Walters; his grandchildren, Addie Walters, Ainsley Walters, Dean Walters, Wynn Walters and Ash Walters; his sister, Barb Smith; his brothers, Rick Walters and Dennis (Lisa) Walters; and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Berneda and Harold Walters; sister, Shirley Weaver; and brothers, David "Randy" Walters and his twin, Don Walters.
Ron worked at Stanz Food Service for 27 years and was a committed employee who often went above and beyond to ensure things were handled correctly in order to best serve the company, his employees and his customers.
Ron was the epitome of a hard-working, dedicated, dependable and loving man. He was known for storytelling and entertaining, which he did with a loud voice, big smile, and a chuckle. The ultimate Mr. Fix-It, Ron was known to get it done, and get it done now. Accomplishing handy tasks for others was how he loved, and with that came his endless example of generosity.
Ron was uncomfortable sitting still and would often tinker in the garage or work on the lawn to stay busy. The only time he was known to slow down was when he was with his grandkids. Ron truly treasured his time with his grandkids including watching them in sports and plays, reading books, swimming, going to the zoo, riding on his tractor, and watching a movie together.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, Indiana, from 3 p.m. EDT until 7 p.m. EDT. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. EDT in the funeral home. Private family burial will be held at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Michigan City, Indiana.

I only met Ron once, at a meeting, but we were put in the same group for the day so we did some talking. He was pleasant, polite, and an asset to the group that day. I can only imagine that he was that way always. Lucky to have met him. Deepest sympathies on your great loss.
