Sheryl Ann (Dodd) Ponder, age 63, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away surrounded by love and family, leaving behind a legacy of strength and independence.
She was born on Nov. 20, 1961, in Michigan City to Harold A. and Maxine A. (Stepp) Dodd. Her mother, Maxine, still survives. Sheryl lived her life with fierce determination and a bold spirit. She was known for being outgoing, outspoken, and endlessly hard-working – a woman who didn't shy away from a challenge and stood firmly by her values and her loved ones.
Sheryl is survived by her adoring husband of 34 years, Charles R. Ponder; her loving children, Charles (Alicia) Kohler and Jennilee (Corey Hobbs) Lingus; cherished grandchildren, Ryan (Marie) Barkow, Chuckie (Bry) Kohler, Kesler Kohler, Aubrey Kohler, Aiden Clark and Makayla Clark; and brothers, Steve Dodd and Ron Dodd. Sheryl is preceded in death by her father, Harold; and brother, Larry Dodd.
A devoted wife and loving mother, Sheryl's greatest joy came from the relationships she built with her family and close-knit circle of friends. Her love was unconditional and her loyalty unwavering.
She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially cats. One of her favorite pastimes was visiting the local cat shelter, where she found joy and peace simply being among the animals she adored. Her home was never complete without a furry companion by her side.
Sheryl also had a love for the competition and thrill of a good game of bingo. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her, love her and be loved by her.
A private celebration of her life will be held by her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sheryl's memory to Fried's Cat Shelter – something she would have loved.
