Shirley (Jones) Okrzesik of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Franciscan Health Michigan City, Indiana.
She was born Oct. 13, 1938, in Norton, Virginia, the daughter of Monroe and Edna (Smith) Jones. Shirley spent most of her adult life in the La Porte area, moving here at the age of 20. On June 25, 1960, she married the love of her life, John Michael Okrzesik, who preceded her in death Jan. 14, 2021.
Shirley worked in production for Aero Metals for many years before retiring. She was known for her love of gardening and cooking delicious meals for her family, using vegetables she grew with care. She took pride in looking after her family and their household needs, always ensuring a warm and welcoming home for all.
She is survived by her son, Greg (Vickie) Okrzesik of McDonough, Georgia; two daughters, Pamela (Phil) Miller of La Porte, Indiana, and Regina (Gary) Kriadis of Naples, Florica; brother, Monroe (Charlotte) Jones of La Porte, Indiana; six grandchildren, Jeremy Noel, Amber Noel, Matt Noel, Greg Kriadis, Alexandra (Cole) Hancock and Haley (Jeremy) Gazerro; and great-grandchild, Saban.
Along with her husband of 60 years, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Edna Jones; brothers, Russell Jones and Billy Jones; and sister, Phyllis (Jeanie) Humes.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana, where the family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. CST. Interment will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be made in Shirley's name to the First United Methodist Church in La Porte, Indiana. Online condolences may be made at www.haverstock funeralhome.com.
