Brian Trahey Obituary

Brian A. Trahey

Grand Ledge - The amazing life of Brian Anthony Trahey, 49, ended tragically on July 7th when he failed to surface during an underwater dam inspection.

Born with a knack for motivating people and making them laugh and always making them feel special, Brian grew up in Howell, graduated from - and played baseball for - Grand Valley State University, founded Trayco Properties, and spent the last two decades by his wife Amy's side - above and below the water - as they built her company, Great Lakes Engineering Group.

Brian was larger than life in so many ways: he quit his job following the birth of his oldest son Quinn to take him to and from Detroit every day for three months of hands on behavioral therapy for autism; he coached his younger son Ty in Little League and continued to teach him the finer points of baseball when Ty entered high school; and to the great joy of his wife of 23 years, Brian was a strong, devoted, passionate and extraordinarily supportive husband.

An avid outdoorsman who hunted elk in Wyoming, went fly-fishing in Montana, and collected his beloved Ford GTs, Brian embraced life in every way. With Quinn's detailed planning and Brian's execution, the family foursome had fantastic annual overseas travel explorations; Brian relished the epic journeys and always kept his family moving in a positive and adventurous direction.

Brian will always be loved by his wife Amy and their sons Quinn and Ty; mother Rosann, brother Steve (Stefanie) and uncle Gary (Patricia); father-in-law Don Hover, sister-in-law Kristie and her husband Jay Carter; nieces Grace, Eve and Karlie; and nephews Steely and Addison. Brian was preceded in death by his father Edward Stephen Trahey, his aunt Elaine Trahey and his mother-in-law Lindy Hover.

Visitation will be held at 9 AM July 16th at St. Mary's Cathedral in downtown Lansing, followed by mass at 10 AM. A celebration of life will follow a private graveside service. Friends are encouraged to honor Brian's life by making a donation in his name to the Autism Alliance or Autism Society of Michigan.
