Daniel Leo Kujawa

Vandercook Lake

DANIEL LEO KUJAWA, 89, of Vandercook Lake passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in the company of his loving family at Legends of Legacy Assisted Living Center in Jackson, MI.  He was born in Detroit, MI on December 15, 1926 to Leo and Anna Pogorzelski Kujawa.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Kujawa.

Dan was very proud of his Navy service during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations and in Washington, D.C.  He returned to Jackson and worked as a machinist with Clark Equipment until his retirement in 1983.  He and his wife, Joan Virt, were married in 1949 at St John's Church in Jackson, MI, and together they raised a son and four daughters.  He was a Life member of American Legion Rose City Post #324, the Knights of Columbus, and a member of St Mary's Parish for over 60 years.  He was a University of Michigan football season ticket holder since 1972, a diehard Tigers fan, and enjoyed his years of coaching American Legion baseball.

He is survived by his wife Joan, who resides at Summit Park Assisted Living Center; son Michael Kujawa and his wife Diana of Clarklake, MI, and daughters Susan McGrain and her husband Brian of Fairview, PA, Margaret Schafer and her husband Dan of Grove City, OH, Mary Ann Magiera of Jackson, MI, and Julie Heselschwerdt and her husband Randy of Napoleon, MI; grandchildren Brian McGrain (Rion Hollenbeck), Angela Kujawa (Allen Ament), Anthony Kujawa, Amanda Kuhl (Justin), Andrea McGrain, Zack Pohl (Stefanie), Jessica Heselschwerdt, Patrick Magiera, Jacob Heselschwerdt, Grant Heselschwerdt, and Kenny McGrain; and great-grandchildren Stella Pohl and Aria Ament.  Other family members include his sister in-law Marylynn Shaughnessy (Tom), several nieces and cousins.

The family would like to especially thank the staff of Legends at Legacy Assisted Living Center for their compassionate and attentive care.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 14 from 5:00 to 8:00PM at Desnoyer Funeral Home, Jackson, MI with Rite of Christian Burial at St Mary's Star of the Sea, Jackson, MI on Wednesday, 10:00AM.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association

Sue and family, what an amazing and long life your father had, although it's never as long as we'd wish it could be. May your fond memories of Mr. Kujawa provide you with some measure of comfort as you grieve his passing. It's been a sad year for Vandy's class of 1970 with your dad and my, Patti Robinson's and Mark Hodges' moms all passing away. We are a part of their legacies and owe it to them as well as ourselves to honor their lives with love, compassion, and caring for others just as they loved us. Especially with all that is happening in the world.
