Diane Dodge Obituary

Diane L. Dodge Lansing September 11, 1948 -April 22, 2011 It is with great sadness that our family marks the passing of Diane Lynn Dodge, who died at the age of 62 after a heroic 11 year battle with ovarian cancer. She will be sorely missed by her many friends and sons, Charlie Dodge and Ben (Tristen) Dodge; grandchildren, Wil, Owen and Harper Dodge; and puppies, Puggie and Sparky. She is also survived by her sisters, Patty (Dale) Kikendall and Tracy (Randy) Ellifrits; brothers, Greg (Penny) Hinkle, Michael Hinkle and Mike (Sherrie) Jones; and stepmother, Eleanor Berning. Also surviving are her aunt, Thelma and cousin, Eugene Merritt; brother-in-law Bill Dodge and family; sisters-in-law, Susan Bennett and family, Carol Dodge; mother-in-law Jane Dodge. Diane was preceded in death by the love of her life, best friend and husband, John Dodge; parents, Lloyd and Naomi Hinkle; and father-in-law Howard Dodge. Diane and John owned the Indian Head Motel in Williamston, Dodge City, the Dodge House, Eddie O'Flynn's and Sneekers Restaurant where she was the ultimate hostess. She also worked at Uncle John's Pancake House, Bill Knapp's and the Village Market in the early days. Diane enjoyed the monthly Twofers club and was a member of the MSU Rebounders and Downtown Coaches Club and an avid supporter of Michigan State University. She volunteered at Sparrow Hospital and WKAR and was a board member at Peckham Industries for many years. Diane spent much of her time over the past 11 years at her home in Canada on Lake Huron enjoying her Canadian friends and beautiful sunsets. It was a very healing place for her where she watched her grandchildren grow and her puppies thrive. Diane loved dolphins and spent many weeks each year on Hilton Head Island and in Florida where she could watch them. Diane had many mantras and sayings she lived by which strengthened her will and helped her fight her toughest battles over the years. You may have heard her say or seen posted somewhere near her "Carpe Diem" or "Believe". A celebration of her life will be held at Hawk Hollow Golf Course on Chandler Rd. in Bath at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 28th; luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the John and Diane Dodge Memorial Endowment Fund for the Greater Lansing Food Bank in c/o the Capital Region Community Foundation, 6035 Executive Drive, Suite 104, Lansing, MI 48911. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Lansing. Online condolences may be made at www.gorslineruncimaneastlansing.com. XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

To all of you, I know that I think of her often and her outgoing and crazy person that she was. I hope with time, the grief has been a teeny bit better, she is truly missed.

Saddened by the (for me) late understanding of Diane's passing. From being an exchange student from Sweden in the 1980s with the phenomenal Dodge family for a year, I remember Diane as a kind and motherly axis of the goings about in the household. I will forever remember the kind being who tirelessly prepared my sack lunches and taught me a lot about the surroundings and do's/dont's. Most grateful. Very late condoleances to my "host brothers" of yore Ben and Charlie and their families.

A wonderful person and business person. We spent many hours at Sneekers' in the 80's...because of their fare and Diane's welcoming nature.

I first met Diane at the "Circle", a support group for ovarian cancer survivors, and we also volunteered at Sparrow Hospital, St. Lawrence campus. She was always upbeat, and I enjoyed our friendship very much. She was a warrior, and will be greatly missed. Janet LaGrow
