Don Randall Obituary

Don Randall Lansing Charles Donald "Don" Randall, 83, of Lansing, passed away on July 4, 2012. Born September 26, 1928, Don was the son of Charles and Margaret Louise Randall. A 1946 graduate of Sexton High School, and after two years at MSU, Don served in the U.S. Army as a photographic specialist during the Korean War. Based in Augsburg, Germany, he designed and built the first mobile photo lab for the U.S. government, developing espionage photos. After the service Don was self-employed his entire life, starting with success in the wholesale plumbing supply business, followed by nearly 50 years in the car and trailer business, selling Wells Cargo Trailers. Don was the only nationwide dealer for Wells Cargo, as well as the longest in existence. Widely known as an antique automobile collector and enthusiast, Don still had his first brand new car, a 1950 Pontiac. Dubbed "The Honeymoon Car" as he purchased it just prior to marrying Sally Cole, the newlyweds traveled in the Pontiac to boot camp in Blackstone, Virginia, repeating the same trip, in the same car, with the same beautiful girl, 25 years later to celebrate their anniversary. Don is survived by the love of his life, his wife Sally, of over 61 years, and children Nancy Vogl (David Strange), Maurice (Brenda), David (Carleen), Ann Hart (Shawn), and Miriam Olsen (Jeff), and nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his youngest child Charles, who died in 1978, just shy of turning six. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012, at the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum, with visitation there at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m., followed by internment at Deepdale Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 8, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Estes-Leadley Funeral Home, Lansing.

Not a nicer guy around. Always went to him with my needs and everyone who ever bought a trailer or car from him will remember him fondly. A fair, decent, honest man....he will be missed.

I bought my first trailer from someone else even though Don told me his was a better product. I found out he was right after the other trailer wore out way too soon. When it wore out, I went straight to him and bought the right trailer. He was extremely helpful and a straight shooter. I also found his reminiscing about older times to be very enjoyable.
