It is with a great sense of loss that I learned of the passing of General Bob Shoemaker, a soldier's soldier, and a soldier's general. IAs I contemplate his passing, I reflect on the many occasions when I either worked for him, served with him, or had occasion to meet and talk with him, and at every occasion. I knew I was in the presence of greatness. Dating back to Ft Benning in 1963 (Project ASTA), and continuing through Vietnam in 1969-1970, visiting Ft Hood/111 Corps in 1972, special project meetings in the Pentagon 1978-1979, and after my retirement in 1983, I had many occasions to meet with him, and in every case my respect and awe of him increased. Since then, I have had occasions to present JROTC awards at Shoemaker High School, and he was always there to encourage and inspire the Cadets. With those memories, I pray that God will rest his soul, comfort his family, and give General Shoemaker the honored place in history he so richly deserves. The Army community will miss this great man.

With great sadness we observe the passing of General Shoemaker. The American Army was a more effective force having had Gen Shoemaker
as an important leader. I had the privilege of flying with Gen Shoemaker at Project Masster and commander of III Corp.
We lost a great american, a superb leader, and I, a good friend .
