Henry Hartley Sr.

Grand Ledge - Henry Hartley Sr., 83, of Grand Ledge, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 5, 2020. He was born to Faye and Walter Hartley in Chauncey, Ohio on January 17, 1937. Aka "Hank" served in the United States Marines for 3 years during the Korean Conflict and was former co-owner of Butch & Hanks Other Side in Grand Ledge with his brother Butch; volunteer member of the Grand Ledge Fire Dept. for many years and Retired as the Assistant Fire Chief; a school bus driver for Grand Ledge Public Schools. He enjoyed and was active in the Cole Briggs American Legion Post 48. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona for 15 years and loved playing golf. Hank was a jokester, always the life of the party; loved his family and friends and wasn't afraid to show it by the winks, kisses and hand squeezes he often gave. He always had that smile and everyone loved Hank…his smile was contagious.

Hank is survived by his loving wife, Janet Hartley of 64 years, his children: Terrie Hartley, Betty (Greg) Schaible, Henry "Sonny" (Cindy) Hartley Jr. and Pam (Larry) McDaniel; 9 Grandchildren and 9 Great grandchildren he truly loved; also survived by his brother Butch Hartley and his sister Norma Hicks. He enjoyed many card playing days and spending time with them both. He was preceded in death by his sister Garnet Knechtges and 3 brothers: Walter R. Hartley Jr., Tony Hartley and Donald Hartley.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be sent to Cole-Briggs American Legion Post 48, 731 N. Clinton St., Grand ledge, MI 48837 or the Grand Ledge Area Fire Department, 500 N Clinton St, Grand Ledge, MI 48837. A celebration of life will be posted at a later date along with a ceremony and burial at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
