"Hod" and family,
So sorry for your loss.
Your Dad was a great man. We met him one time, about 10 years ago, at a U of M basketball game (tickets courtesey of him)- we sat next to him - our son was 10 at the time, he took such patience and delight in explaining the game to him, and I enjoyed talking with him and learning a little about him that evening,as well. He left quite an impression after only one visit!
What memories you must have.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Take care.

Uncle Howard's funeral ceremony gave a clear indication of how much he was both loved and respected. I had always known this of course and have so much love and respect for him. Seeing his brother Frank, (who is my father), telling stories about Uncle Howard growing up in front of a rapt audience of his nephews and thier children clearly illustrated the love and fascination for this marvelous man. I am forever grateful that I had the chance to visit with him at Michigan home football games. I will cherish those memories forever. My loving sympathy to Aunt Polly and all of Uncle Howard's family.

I only knew "Uncle Hod" through the great stories told to our family by his niece (and my dear sister-in-law), Lynn Comstock Sims. She and her family thought the world of him. When Maris was born my mom questioned having her outside with no hat or covering on her head. The response - Uncle Hod's advice was that the sun and breeze would be good for her . . . apparently it was! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all the wonderful postings which portray Dr. Comstock as such a devoted physician and family man. It should be our hope that others hold us in such high esteem when our lives are done. Deepest sympathy to the entire Comstock family for your loss.

My mother called this week to tell me Dr. Comstock had died. In 1955 I was born premature and my mother always told me I was given the first complete blood transfusion in Lansing at birth. I never knew the doctor's name until now. Without him, I am sure I would not be here today. My heartfelt thoughts go out to his family.

Yesterday's funeral ceremony was an eloquent and moving tribute to my Uncle Hod. Cousin Chris, your eulogy superbly captured the essence of your father and his "quiet brilliance", a brilliance which touced the lives of so many. I will always treasure my memories of Uncle Hod, with particular admiration for the love, support, strength and wisdom he shared with my father, William J. Braunlich Jr., as he faced the callenges of cancer, and with my mother, Hildreth Mary Comstock Braunlich, as she faced the grief and loneliness of widowhood. Whenever Uncle Hod arrived for a visit my mother's blue eyes sparkled and the air was filled with laughter and good spirits. She deeply loved her baby brother, as do we. Deepest sympathies to Aunt Polly and cousins Paulajean, Hod, Curt, Frank and Chris and to Uncle Frank Comstock. I am proud to bear the name "Howard" as my middle name, representing my Comstock lineage, tradition and legacy. And, I was proud to join all of you celebrating Uncle Hod's life!

Dr. Comstock was my pediatrician in the mid 1950's. When I was in second grade I had appendicitis and he came to our house. I still remember that visit from a handsome and caring doctor. And I cried at my last office visit because I was told I was too old to have Dr. Comstock as my doctor! Prayers of gratitude to your family for sharing him with me and my family all those years.

I was tremendously moved by the tribute from Dr. Comstock's youngest son at his funeral today. One of my greatest life lessons learned from Dr. Comstock was to honor and serve the underprivileged. Spending time in his waiting room was an opportunity for me for many years to truly view his compassion for ALL moms and kids as he cared for my sons. It was truly inspiring that he could remain so grounded... A Gentle Giant in every good sense. Just a prince of a guy.
