I knew John as (Mr. Arend), respected him deeply as a boss! I will never forget getting called to the office thinking that I had done something wrong and Mr. Arend was there and wanted to hire two of the tallest girls in the school to trim Christmas Trees. I worked over two years selling and trimming trees I was finally honored for being tall. Since I worked for him, my parents have bought live trees, filled there yard with them every year from Arends Tree Farm Thank-you Mr. Arend and our deepest sympathy goes out to your family! Sherrie (Corbett) Johnson and family!

I didn't know John personally; however, as a member of the Department of Horticulture, MSU, I respected him and appreciated what he did for the department. His leaving is a great loss to all of us. May God bless you and your family.

We offer our sincere sympathy to Viola and the whole Arend family on the loss of John. We will forever remember the dance that he and Viola shared on the occasion of Matthew and Emily's wedding! What an amazing couple! Sincerely, David and Debbie Mesley
