Michael Nelson Obituary

Michael Lee Nelson Grand Ledge Michael L. Nelson, age 68, passed away at home on June 12, 2011. He was born September 11, 1942 in Lansing, MI, son to John and Ann (Rose) Nelson. Michael was a retired pipefitter for General Motors; volunteer firefighter for DeWitt Twp.; attended the Grand Ledge Baptist Church, and enjoyed woodworking. He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Margaret, son Larry (Pam) Nelson of DeWitt, favorite only daughter, Tammy (Tom) Henderson of Bath, and his second family whom he was very ond of: stepson Steve Challender of Grand Ledge, 4 stepdaughters: Penny Banner, Kathy Challender of Toledo, OH, Lorrie Challender and Sharon (Allen) Fraley of Grand Ledge; 3 grandchildren: Tony and Skyler Nelson and Tommy Henderson, numerous step-grandchildren, and 1 sister Wendy Doane. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years, Vera; son Michael; parents, 2 brothers Larry and Gary Nelson; sister Terry Ann, and step-son Loren Challender. Funeral services were held Friday, June 17, 2011 - 11:00 a.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with interment at Summit Cemetery in Williamston, MI. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Ledge Baptist Church or the Hospice Advantage. Online condolences may be made at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com.
