Norman Mark Mitchell

Norman Mark Mitchell Leslie Norman Mark Mitchell passed away on June 30, 2008. Born in Vevay Township on July 25, 1916, he was the son of John and Hazel (Laxton) Mitchell. He lived in Leslie all of his life, owning and operating Mitchell's Department Store with his father, brothers, and sons. He and Marjorie Jean McIntee were married May 19, 1941 at Ss. Cornelius and Cyprian Church in Bunkerhill. Norman's civic involvement included the Leslie Lions Club (Charter Member), Leslie Board of Education, Leslie City Council and Director-Peoples Bank of Leslie. Norman also belonged to bowling leagues in Leslie, Mason, and Jackson Elks as well as the Jerital Golf League in Pleasant Lake. Norman is survived by his children, Mary Ellen (Dale) Tithof of Chesaning, JoAnne (Rea) Edmonson of Phoenix, AZ, James (Nancy) Mitchell of Leslie, Janet (James) Muir of Farmington Hills, Norma Jean (Frank) Spadafore of Stockbridge, Patrick Mitchell of Leslie, and Michael Mitchell of Leslie; his grandchildren, John (Mary) Tithof, Susan (Stuart) Forsyth, Mark (Nicole) Tithof, Scott (Shannon) Tithof, Christopher Tithof, Jeff (Rose) Edmonson, Amy (Adam) Johnson, Sarah Mitchell, Beth (Rob) Cebelak, Mary Mitchell, Katie Muir, Patrick Muir, Tim (Heather) Muir, Anna (Zach) Predmore, Mike (Jenn) Spadafore, Tony (Kelly) Spadafore, Joe (Melissa) Spadafore, Nick (Mindy) Spadafore; great-grandchildren, Gwen, Constance, Joanna, Jack, Alexandria, Alexa, Ava, Wyatt, Lincoln, Julia, Ryan, Mya, Hunter, Aidan and Phoebe; one sister, Janet (Dr. George) Purvis of Jackson, MS; sisters-in-law, Jean Mitchell of Leslie, Elaine Mitchell of Hastings; many nieces and nephews; and his family at Riverwind Assisted Living. Norman was predeceased by his wife Marjorie, in 1995; his parents; sisters, Pauline and Mary Jean; and brothers, William, Marvin and Richard. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Ss. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Michael Petroski officiating. Interment will follow at Ss. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the J.C. Adams Funeral Home, Leslie Chapel, today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Leslie Area Educational Foundation, Ss. Cornelius and Cyprian Catholic Church, or to Youth Haven Ranch.
