Richard Bauerle Obituary

Richard Frederick Bauerle Richard Frederick Bauerle, emeritus professor of English and humanities at Ohio Wesleyan University, died June 9, 2008 in Delaware, Ohio, age 86. Formerly of Lansing, Bauerle was the son of Paul and Marian Bauerle, proprietors of Banerle Florist. A graduate of Michigan State University, Bauerle earned graduate degrees from the University of Michigan and Western Reserve University. He served during WWII as a combat infantry officer in the European theatre and at the War Crimes Tribunal at Nuremberg, Germany. Bauerle joined Ohio Wesleyan's faculty in 1953 and taught there for 38 years. He pioneered inclusion of African languages and literature in linguistics and humanities courses respectively. He published widely in professional journals, serving as contributing editor to several. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, two children, four grandchildren, a cousin, five nieces and nephews, and their families. Bauerle's sisters, Marilyn McKim and Dorothy Lake, predeceased him. Memorial contributions may be made to Homecare Hospice of Grady Memorial Hospital, Delaware, Ohio or a charity of the donor's choice.
