Robert Fitzke Obituary

Robert L. Fitzke Lansing Robert L. Fitzke, retired East Lansing attorney, former lobbyist and the first Executive Director of Delta Dental of Michigan died October 30, 2008, of natural causes. Bob was born April 22, 1926 in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late Robert and Grace Fitzke. Bob joined the Navy ROTC in 1948. After his discharge, Bob worked as a plumber in Battle Creek, while pursuing an undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University. A member of MENSA, Bob loved to learn and was well versed in a broad spectrum of subjects. Bob was an avid gardener despite his physical challenges. He also enjoyed jazz music, riding his 4-wheeled bicycle, watching sports and joining old friends and past colleagues for cards, coffee, and debate at the City Club of Lansing. Bob was preceded in death by his son-in-law, William F. Workman. He is survived by his children, Robert (DeAnne) Fitzke, Johanna Workman, and David (Linda) Fitzke; ex-wife and close friend, Joycelyn Sheffer; sister, Marilyn Mitchell; brother, John Fitzke; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. There will be a visitation at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, on Monday, November 3, 2008 from 3:30-7 p.m. There will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the National Wildlife Federation, 1 Stationery Place, Rexburg, ID 83441-5000; the American Horticulture Society, 7931 East Boulevard Drive, Alexandria, VA 22308; or the charity of one's choice in memory of Robert L. We are saddened to learn of the passing of our old friend Bob. We have known him since Marj worked at the MDA. Bob was not only fun but he also always made you think.
Our thoughts are with Dave and Linda.

I enjoyed discussing Politics and Religion with Bob. Strong minded and always fighting for what he believed or didn't believe in.

Though I did not know Robert Fitzke personally, I admire his accomplishments and endeavors.

I am thinking of Mr. Fitzke's children during this time of their loss and transition.
