Violet L. Shipley

Violet L. Shipley Trout Lake Violet L. Shipley, 94 of Trout Lake, MI passed away early Wednesday morning, June 15th at Diamondale Nursing Care Center, Diamondale. She was born in East Jordan on August 10, 1916. Her parents were Thomas and Iva Pearl (McMillan) McGarry. She worked as an accountant for the State of Michigan several years, and at age 48, received her degree in Education from MSU, and taught K through 3 at Trout Lake School and retired from that position. She and her husband lived in Lansing until 1964, and moved to Trout Lake. She married Herbert Shipley on August 24, 1935 in Sault Ste. Marie, and he died January 9, 1997. He retired from REO in Lansing and then moved to Trout Lake in 1968 to join his wife. She was very active in the community and church, The Grace Brethren Church in Ozark. She was President of Chippewa Co. Farm Bureau; past president, Trout Lake Womens Club; Chair of the Trout Lake Bicentennial Committee; Chair of the Citizens Involvement Committee; taught Sunday School and Junior Church; W,M. Council; very active in Child Evangelism Fellowship. She was very active in all July 4th activities, always making a float with her family. She is survived by a son, Larry (Janet) Shipley, Roseburg, Oregon; daughters, Kay Clarl Lansing, Gail (Dick) Silky, Haslett; a brother, Michael (Joann) McCarry, Frankenmuth; 7 sisters, Alice Dell, Hesperia, Rosella Prater, Garnet, Florence Higelmire, Ozark, Natalie Mosher, Haslett, Brett DeWeese, Pleasant Lake, Wanda Graham, Paradise, Patsy Kurtz, Gahanna, Ohio; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by 2 brothers, Herbert and Peter McCarry. Friends may call at Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace on Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 18 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Dan Funderburg officiating. Burial will be in Grace Brethren Cemetery, Ozark.
