Wayne Wilber Obituary

Wayne Franklin Wilber

Charlotte

Wayne Franklin Wilber, 63,  died July 3, 2015 at his home.  He was born January 17, 1952 in Lansing, MI, the son of Frank and May (VanAkin) Wilber.  Wayne served in the Army during Vietnam from 1969 to 1971 before returning to Michigan and marrying Paula Rust in 1973.  Wayne and Paula began their family and, shortly after, settled in Charlotte.  Wayne worked as a transportation engineer for the State of Michigan, spending many years on sites throughout the state.  He was an avid Civil War enthusiast, traveling to various historical places, and was a member of the American Legion.  Wayne loved to bowl, both with his kids and in leagues in Charlotte.  Above all, Wayne loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Paula (Rust) Wilber; sons Robert (Anne) Wilber, and John Wilber; daughters Lori (Chris) Dampier, and Jace Wilber; grandchildren Jared Wilber and Aria Dampier; sisters Dorothea (Leo) Peasley, Ramona Hart, Norma Hyatt, Wanda (Ralph) Merrell), and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Michael Wilber and Clark Ketchum.

Military honors and burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Fisher House Foundation for veterans and their families, which can be made online at www.fisherhouse.org/donate.  Friends and family are encouraged to share memories of Wayne on his tribute page at www.prayfuneral.com.

I remember my little brother (in-law) so fondly. I remember (back when we were very young) and we had taken a day trip ( from Lansing) through the u.p. To Canada. By the time we got back to about Harrison Wayne and I were both zonked, so was Mike, Mike said I had to drive because he was to tired, I told him I couldn't because I was to tired also. We argued over it for a couple minutes, then finally Wayne said okay I will drive, I'm not too tired. I never woke up til we got home. Wayne was 15 then and had not even had drivers ed. yet! He probably saved our lives. He was a very good person and will be missed. My condolences go out to his family.
