Mildred Spears Obituary

Mildred A. Spears

Midge Spears, of Middletown, DE passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Christiana Hospital surrounded by her family at the age of 77.

Midge was born in Sophia, West Virginia and she was the daughter of the late Lester and Artie (Blevins) Love. In addition, to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Irene Love, Jean Hill, and Carol June Lockard. She is survived by brother, Bob Love of Cibolo, TX, sister/best friend Charlotte Sheets of Chesapeake, VA, and brother-in-law, Sam Lockard of Dover.

She lived in Newark for 35 years. She worked as a radiologist at the Delaware Division Hospital, line worker at Motor Wheel Corp., sales rep. at Avon, and an accomplished manager of Tupperware. For 20 years, she owned Sun Cycle, Inc., all while being an active member of Ogletown Baptist Church. Midge enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, camping, and visiting with her family. In addition, she took pleasure in watching every sport imaginable. Nevertheless, her favorite part of life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild.

Midge is survived by her daughter, Susan Thomas and husband Bill of Middletown with whom she lived, and her three sons: Mark Taylor and wife Patty of Chesapeake, VA, Timothy Taylor of Bear, and John Van Dyke of Newark, her grandchildren: Billy and Jennifer Thomas, Sherri, Paul, Andrew, Jordan, Hailey, and Sophia Taylor, and Ashley, Amanda, and J.C. Van Dyke. She was especially proud of her only great grandchild, Deshawn, who shares her birthday. In addition, she is survived by her only niece, Carol Ann Hylton and her husband David of Chesapeake VA, several nephews, two very special friends Lorraine Burns and Kelly Ryan, and her loyal pets, Brutus and her namesake cat, Middie.

The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff at Christiana Hospital, Units 2A and 3D, and especially Dr. Metreveli, Dr. Santoro, CCRNs Megan Roth, Steve Larrimore, and Marisol Velasquez for the wonderful and compassionate care that they gave to Midge and the family every day during the last 9 months.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702 from 6pm-8pm and again on Saturday, June 22nd from 10am-11am followed by a Memorial Service at 11am.
