David Smith Obituary

Lubbock- David Graham Smith, 89, passed away November 10, 2017, in Lubbock, Texas. He was born in Dallas Texas to Harry K. and Leona V. Smith on September 29, 1928. Dave grew up in Amarillo, Texas and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1947. He began his career with Westinghouse Electric Supply and 67 years ago married, Nita, the love of his life. Dave transferred to Baton Rouge, Louisiana as Manager in 1967 and then to Lubbock as District Manager in 1971. His career at Westinghouse spanned 41 years.

In Amarillo, Dave and Nita were active members of the San Jacinto United Methodist Church where Dave was Sunday School Superintendent and they were leaders of the Methodist Youth Fellowship group. Dave enjoyed singing in the church choir and his beautiful tenor solos praising his Lord were enjoyed by all.

Dave along with Nita, were avid Square and Round Dancers. They became Round Dance instructors in 1968 and in 1972 formed the Happy Hearts Round Dance Club. They became nationally renowned as they taught and cued at festivals all around the U.S. from Tennessee to California, to Oregon and Hawaii.

Dave enjoyed playing golf, was a huge Texas Tech Red Raider fan and volunteered for more than 15 years at Covenant Women's and Children's Hospital. He was known by all as a kind and caring man of the highest integrity.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harry K Smith, Jr., and sister, Betty Sue Blessen.

He is survived by his wife, Nita; a son, David (Randy) Smith of Lubbock and daughters, Rhena L. Smith and Rhonda L. Smith; granddaughters, Kate Smith, Savannah Smith all of Austin, TX, and Shannon Smith of New York City; great-granddaughter, Skyla Riggleman of Austin, and another great- grand daughter to arrive in December. Dave is also survived by three sisters-in-law, and too many nieces, nephews, and friends to count. He will be missed by many.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 4 PM, Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers in Lubbock. There is a guest book online at www.memorialdesigners.net for those who wish to write a note or share a memory.

Dave you will be missed. You had such a gentle, patient way about you. There is no doubt that the circle is forming with everyone getting ready to dance to the best ever. You did so much for Jerry and I that we will never forget. God bless you Dave.
