Donald Roark Obituary

>Donald Lee Roark LUBBOCK-Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Donald (Don) Lee Roark, 71, of Lubbock, Texas, went to be with his heavenly Father on Dec. 27, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 30, 2016, at Christ the King Cathedral. Don was born on June 26, 1945 in Wellington, Texas. After graduating from high school, he moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University. Don then began working behind the counter at Hester Hardware. His love for his customers and the small business eventually turned into ownership. Don was president of Hester Hardware for more than 25 years. He married his love, Billie Mullins, (Miss Bill) on Aug. 8, 1970. Most recently he served as director of customer relations for FirstBank & Trust, doing what he loved best, cooking and entertaining for hundreds of businesses and organizations across west Texas. Blessed with a servant's heart, Don is remembered by those who knew and loved him, as a friend who would gladly give you the shirt off his back. He was dad to both Kirk and Kristi but known as a second father to many of their friends. An avid hunter and fisherman, Don was happiest behind a grill, surrounded by friends and family. Don was preceded in death by his father, Robert Roark; mother, Lola, and stepfather, J.J. Roan, John W. Roark; his brother, and sister, Mary Ann Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Billie of Lubbock; son, Kirk of Lubbock; daughter, Kristi and her husband, Jay Dee Denton of Flower Mound; sister, Linda and brother-in-law, Mark Yager of Boulder, CO; and brother, Robert (Lonnie) Roark of Lubbock. DaDon was the proud grandfather of two precious grandchildren, Jace Don and Kate Elaine Denton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Texas Tech Red Raider Baseball via the Red Raider Club at 2508 6th Street, Jones AT&T Stadium, Suite 130, Lubbock, TX 79407, or the Burkhart Center for Autism Education and Research at 2902 18th Street, Lubbock, TX 79409.

I just learned of Don's death today (11-3-17) after mentioning his servant heart in an article recently published. He was one of a kind. And, I enjoyed working with him when I was a consultant to FirstBank several years ago. My prayers go out for his family for this amazing man.

I had not spoken to Don in many years. I do not know why I thought of googling his name today...just to see where he might be. He and I worked at Hester Hardware in the 60's. I suggested to the Hesters that when they retire...Don was just the right guy to sell the business to. He always had a smile on this face and ready to go.

Such a small world....I saw Don on the campus of SMU years later...he was moving his son into a dorm.....we were moving our daughter into hers. His son later was a fraternity brother of my son in law, Jim Martin.

I am late here with my comments.....I see from other entries that he will be missed greatly.

The passing of Don, just at the time we have planned to visit our long lost friend, left us very sad. He was a wonderful person, generous, funny and with a big heart. His legacy will be with me for ever and the beautiful boots we presented to me will remind me on Don. My dear friend, rest in peace, I miss you.
