Eddie Hooks Obituary

Eddie James Hooks LUBBOCK-Eddie James Hooks, 95, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on March 14, 2016. He was born on Sept. 28, 1920, to Retelus Tull and Elese Hooks. He grew up in Dekalb, Texas, and moved to Lubbock in the late 1950's. In 1945, he married Jurlene Akins and to that loving union nine children were born. He was a very proud and dedicated father who loved his children very much. After the death of his beloved Jurlene, he refused to separate his children to be cared for by various other relatives. He insisted on raising all of his children together. In 1966, he married Nellie F. Hughes, who willingly and lovingly assisted him with that distinguished accomplishment. She also preceded him in death. Early in life he made his living as a farmer. In 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army (USAAC); now known as the U.S. Air Force (USAF). He honorably served as an Airman First Class (airplane mechanic) from March 5, 1945, to Aug. 2, 1946. He was a very proud WWII veteran. His occupation for many years was a truck driver. However, his passion and true vocation was as a mechanic. He was an excellent mechanic his entire life. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughters, Carolyn Hooks Walker (Daniel E. Walker) and Eddie Jewel Hooks; sons, Charles James Hooks and Donald Ray Hooks; 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held Friday, March 18, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held today at 6 p.m., followed by wake service at 6:30 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary Chapel.

To the Hooks family we are so sorry for your loss of Bro. Hooks. I remember how he was always working in somebody's car. He was the African ameican's neighborhood mechanic. I know my dad went to him many times . We are praying for you and just know we've been where you are. May the God of All Comfort, Comfort you NOW!

I will love and miss my grandaddy. He always knew what to say, before I even said a word. He was nothing but loving and kind to me. I will miss our fishing trips and his wise lectures.
