Felix Lumbreras Cervantes Sr.

1930 - 2018

Austin- Felix Lumbreras Cervantes Sr. (88) passed peacefully at home in Austin, Texas on October 7th, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife Maria Alicia Rios Cervantes, mother Martina Lumbreras Cervantes and brother Baldomero Lumbreras Cervantes. He was born in Cardenas, Mexico in 1930 and moved to the U.S. in 1950 where he met his bride Maria Alicia Rios. They started a family in the Rio Grande Valley and moved to Floydada in 1962 where they raised their 7 children. Common to those in farming Mr. Cervantes worked from sunup to sundown in the West Texas farming community until his retirement in 2002. In 2017 Mr. Cervantes moved to Austin where he quickly took to life in the Capital City. Felix loved being outdoors and watching the weather change. Since his childhood he loved baseball and played local baseball into his 40's. His favorite past time was watching the Texas Rangers play ball. Felix was a strong, honorable and proud man. He is survived by his two sisters: Elena Barron of Donna, Texas and Carmen Barrera of Rio Grande City: daughters Arcie Biggerstaff of San Angelo, Martina Cervantes of Cocoa Beach, Fla, Elisa Cervantes of Austin and Judy Cervantes of Cincinnati, Oh; and sons Jimmy of Floydada, Felix Jr. and Jerry of Lubbock. He had 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews in the Rio Grande Valley who lovingly called him "Tio Boots". A Remembrance Mass was held in Loving Memory of Mr. Felix Cervantes on Saturday, October 13th at St. Theresa of Infant Jesus Christ Catholic Church in Edcouch, Texas followed by a Rosary and dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Claudio Caceres. A Celebration of Life service will be held by the Cervantes family at a later date in Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local Hospice.
