June Hanneman Obituary

June Hanneman DENVER CITY-Memorial services for June (Markley) Hanneman of Denver City, Texas, will be held today, Sept. 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Denver City. Reverend Ken Stallings, a son-in-law, Pastor of Forest Home Church of the Nazarene in Jonesboro, Arkansas, will officiate with the assistance of Reverend David Hollon and Reverend Harold Brown under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City. June was born to Ernest and Jennie Markley on Jan. 15, 1925, in Lincoln, Kansas. She attended schools there and taught for some time during WWII. She married Elmer Hanneman on Sept. 20, 1942, and accompanied him whenever possible during his years in the Air Force. In the 1950's June and Elmer were a part of the last homesteading program in the United States when they moved to Idaho and, along with other veterans, made homes appear from a virgin, sagebrush-covered land. June enjoyed many types of activities. After moving with her family to Denver City in 1963, she became active in the Women's Bowling Association, serving as its president for some years. She played on the women's softball team and loved to pitch horseshoes. Writing poetry was her lifelong hobby. She has had some of her work published and has assembled a book of her poetry for her family. She became one of the dozen family pilots, getting her license in 1964. She helped ferry planes from place to place when needed in the family aerial spraying business which covered a four state area with a satellite location in northeastern Kansas. Upon retirement, June and Elmer became an active part of the Yoakum County Senior Center, where she served in many different areas over a twenty year period. It was there she discovered the fun of competing in pool tournaments with other senior centers in the surrounding area. She also started a line dancing class for senior women which she taught for several years. Until Elmer lost his eyesight, they spent several weeks each winter in Arizona enjoying their motor home, visiting with old friends from homesteading days who came from Idaho to winter in the warm sunshine, and riding dune buggies over the surrounding mountains and sand dunes. June and Elmer were very active in their church throughout the years. Because of their business activity throughout the Midwest, they were fortunate to have worshipped and served in several different Nazarene Churches along the way. Elmer preceded June in death on Jan. 2, 2009. One grandson was killed in a plane crash in 2007. The remaining family includes Michael and wife Rhea Ann of Abilene, Texas; Robert and wife Resa of Denver City, Texas; and Linda Stallings and husband Ken of Jonesboro, Arkansas; also, two brothers: Larry Markley of Augusta, Kansas, and Richard Markley of Cleveland, Missouri; and one sister, Beth Bennett of Alva, Oklahoma; along with five grandsons; one granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. My apologies for not attending the memorial service. I didn't see the funeral time until too late. Jackie sends his sympathy as well. We're thinking of you. I didn't know your Mom well, but from what I knew, she was a wonderful and talented woman.
