Neta Elms Obituary

Neta Elms LUBBOCK-In the afternoon of May 6, 2016, Neta Elms passed away of natural causes at her home in Lubbock, Texas. She was 98 years old. Neta was born on Jan. 18, 1918, in Aspermont, Texas. She was the fourth daughter of F.W. and Olivia Collins. She had two younger brothers. The Collins family moved to Ralls, Texas when she was six years old. Neta was raised there and graduated from Ralls High School before attending Draughon's Business College and becoming the Secretary for the City of Ralls. The Rotary International played a large part in Neta's life as she was named Miss Rotary International and worked on the Rotary paper. It was at the Rotary that Neta met the love of her life, Dale Elms. They were married on Easter Sunday, 1940. They had one daughter, Daleta Sue Elms. Neta and Dale moved to San Antonio while Dale was in the Air Force and then moved to Lubbock where Dale started Elms Equipment, a farm machinery business he owned for 38 years. The couple enjoyed traveling as Dale was a National and International Director for National Farmer Dealers Association. They were both active members of the First Baptist Church and members of the Sojourner Sunday School Class. Neta was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Lady Lioness Club, and the New Song Ladies group. She often attended the Wednesday Bible Study group. After Dale passed in 2000, Neta resided in Windsong at Carillon for 14 years and was an encourager of many friends there. She moved twice in recent years but remained in Lubbock. Neta is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Beau Wendt; her grandchildren: Josh Ruppert, Justin Ruppert, Amy Wendt, April and Eddy Lynch, and Matthew Ruppert, all of Houston. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Dwain and Pauline Collins of Clovis, NM and her dog, Tiny. The funeral service for Neta will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the chapel at Resthaven Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Resthaven. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to African Ministry Project, 4910 17th Street, Lubbock, TX 79416. Condolences and remembrances may be added to the guest book at www.resthavenfuneralhome.com.

Dale and Neta were special friends of ours at First Baptist Church. They stood with us as we dedicated our first son, Jonathan, because DL Lowrie thought they were his grandparents. I will miss Neta but know she and Larry and Dale are searching for a fourth at the 42 table. Praying for you, Lynn Elms and Family
