Dear Mantooth Family, I posted on Facebook that Mr. Mantooth was one of my favorite teachers. Actually, he was one of those rare, unforgettable teachers. I walked into Mr. Mantooth's English class, as a scared Jr. - Seminole had the phase system in Math, Science and English, which I think was quite extraordinary for the times. We had just taken our annual Achievement tests. Here was this tough as nails Coach; he called me up to his desk, at the end of the school year and said, "I think you need to take Phase 4 English next year." I was horrified; "No..I can't do that, it's too hard!" He quickly replied, "you've got the grades for it, I know you can do it!" Well, long story short, this Coach encouraged me to break out of my comfort zone. I took the class and did well; Coach was the first encourager I had! I know many others experienced that as well. I've often remembered that moment and hope to do the same for the young people I come into contact with. The baton has been passed! Blessings and comfort to you all!

My dear Sammye, Rick, Jill, and Julie, Marcy and I were deeply hurt to hear of Ricky's passing. He was more than a coach and teacher to me. He taught me "Life Lessons" that I could only learn from knowing him. I had no idea I would call him "My Friend" when I grew up. Our prayers and love will always be with you. Jerry and Marcy Thomas
