Sherri Proctor Obituary

Sherri Proctor COLUMBIA, TENN.-Sherri Proctor, 49, formerly of Lubbock, died on Sept. 25, 2012, in Columbia, Tenn. She is survived by her husband, Mark, 49; daughter, Meagan Proctor Kavouras, 23; son, Grayson, 21; and daughter, Madison, 14. In addition to her husband and children, Sherri is survived by her parents, Gene and Mary Ella Phelps of Thornton, Texas; sister, Kari Lee of Elmhurst, Ill.; and brother, David Phelps of Culleoka, Tenn. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Jerri Proctor of Lubbock, and brother-in-law, Dewayne Proctor of Snyder, as well as a number of other in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Amon Proctor, and one nephew, Dustin Proctor. Sherri was born in Waco on June 20, 1963, and raised in Duncanville and Houston. She was a third-generation graduate of Baylor University, where she studied early childhood education and served as the chaplain for the Delta Delta Delta sorority. After graduating in 1985, Sherri married Mark Proctor of Lubbock and began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Lubbock Independent School District. After a number of years teaching in the classroom, Sherri homeschooled her children and served as a church worship-leader in Lubbock. In Nashville, she owned an artist management agency and was an accomplished vocalist and studio musician with a number of recordings to her credit. Sherri lived a life of effusive faith. Her home resonated with music born of gratitude as each day she attempted to walk as Christ walked. She cherished her role as a pastor's wife and was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church in Columbia. Memorials may be sent to the Sanctuary Renovation Fund of Highland Park Baptist Church, 1800 Highland Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401. A celebration service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at 6 p.m. in the main sanctuary of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church of Columbia following a private graveside service in the Arbors of Polk Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the care of Williams Funeral Home of Columbia, www.williamsfh.com.

I am so saddened to hear of Sherri's passing, but am rejoicing that I know where she is and who she's worshiping even now. I knew Sherri when I attended Western Heights Baptist Church. She and her roommate Susan, mentored me while I was in high school. It seems so funny now that I realize she was only 2 years older than me!! Unfortunately, I lost track and have tried to find her over the years to say thank you!! So I will tell you, her family, I was blessed by your mother and Mark, your wife. She has left a legacy that I am passing on to my children.

To the Phelps and Proctor families, no words can heal the hurt or fill the loss. I only just now read about Sheri's passing. I will certainly be lifting all of you up in my prayers. I never had the joy of having a sibling every time I hear of the loss of someone's brother or sister passing it just breaks my heart. The only thing I know to say is that I am so very sorry and heartbroken to hear of Sherri's passing and of your loss. I pray blessings on you all always.

I met Sherri & her daughter at one of David's concert, along with David & his wife. Just being in their present, God's love radiated all around. Their voices are so wonderful, they brought me great joy, listening to them sing. I found out that we are distant cousins; but, to me Sherri was my sister in Christ. Prayers are with all. I learned of Sherri's death and did not know the guestbook was online. I am so glad it is. She was such an inspiration to me and you see the love of Jesus in her eyes as she sang. I was never lucky enough to see her in person, but I am sure she is singing her heart out to God and He is enjoying every song. I will meet her in heaven and maybe then I can personally hear her sing.

On Sat night's I watch Gaither Homecoming Hour. I am listening to David Phelp's speak of his sister's battle with Breast Cancer and he introduces her as they both sing " Walk On"...both Phelps children have angelic voices and the song touched me deeply. I was unaware of Sherri's passing until just now and I felt I needed to post in her guest book as her voice has inspired me to not worry as i'll never be alone....prayers to both Phelps and Proctor's families.

I know when a loved one has gone to be with the Lord (my Mom and Dad are with HIM also)so many words and thoughts are shared with the family and friends.I don't know the words I can express how I feel. I have met and talked with Sherri. An instant connection. The same Lord and Savior we both love and serve. What a sweet, gentle spirit and a voice to match. We will continue to pray for the Phellps and Proctor families. It's when everyone (family and friends) have all gone back to their everyday lives that much, much prayer, uplifting and encouragement will be needed for such a time as this.I especially pray for David. I have a brother I love dearly. The bond between brother and sister is great. Many, many prayers to the throne of God will be in the days to come. Bless you families.

Wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend...what a remarkable life she shared with those around her. Gene,
I am so very sorry to learn about Sherri's passing. I am so very thankful and grateful to you,for letting your kids know that I lived in Ft. Smith and wanted to get to visit with them, while on tour. Sherri and Kari both stood and talked with me for approx. 15 minutes. I got to meet her son while tearing down the stage. My prayers and thoughts are with you and Mary Ella at this time. If ever near Ft. Smith, stop and spend the night! Also, my dad was born in Columbia, TN! Small world... Again, my condolences.

I've only recently heard David Phelps' music and in that time he has quickly become my favorite singer. Through him, I've been blessed to also listen to Sherri Proctor's beautiful singing which glorified God from here on earth and will glorify Him even more now in paradise with Christ Jesus and the heavenly angels... I didn't know of her battle with cancer, but one thing I do know from her example of singing despite it is that she was truly a "good and faithful servant" of the Lord our King, filled with His Spirit, in whom life doesn't end but begins.. My prayers and heart go out for the Proctors and Phelps in this sorrowful time. But I hopes it helps to know that all sadness here is but an instant compared to the eternal joy we will have when we are together again. Love to you all in Christ our Lord and Savior,

We send our sympathies to your families. We enjoyed hearing Sherri at the many David Phelps concerts over the past 8 years and listening to her sweet voice on many cd's. It was an honor to meet Sherri at Barn Bash 2012. I was able to tell David (Phelps) at the National Quartet Convention that, for me, the highlight of Barn Bash 2012 was being able to hear and see Sherri sing. I told him I was not aware of her battle, but her presence truly conveyed the love that Christ has for us. All of us are so blessed to have had the opportunity to hear and see Sherri minister over the years, and our faith tells us that we will have the opportunity to do that again one day. We mourn, yet we rejoice, because of the hope that we have in Christ. Our prayers go out to the Phelps & Proctor families for comfort, and we pray for a great harvest of souls yet to come who will have an opportunity to hear and see Sherri's legacy on CD or video and commit their lives to Christ.
