Shirley Cox Obituary

Shirley Ann Cox BROWNFIELD-Shirley Ann Cox passed into the arms of our heavenly father Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, after a long and courageous fight with cancer. A celebration of her life will be Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Brownfield First Baptist Church, 219 West Main Street, in Brownfield. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, Sept. 22, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brownfield Funeral Home. Shirley was born Aug. 20, 1950, in San Angelo. She lived in Millersview until the age of four. Her family then moved to Colorado City making that their permanent home and where she attended school. She married Aubrey Cox on Aug. 26, 1968. They lived in Lubbock for a brief time before moving to Brownfield where they have lived and raised their children. She graduated Nursing school in Lubbock and started her career in 1990. She worked at Brownfield Nursing Home for several years prior to working 19 years with Brownfield Regional Medical Center Home Care. Shirley loved her patients and they loved her. She was known to take them burgers and malts to their home when she went to care for them. Sometimes even taking groceries when she saw they needed food. She not only treated their pain and illness, but she would also pray with them for their healing. Everyone who knew her was in admiration of her generosity and compassion. Loving and unselfish, that was our Shirley! On numerous occasions she opened her lovely home and her heart to friends to host wedding receptions, bridal and baby showers. Never one to say no she was a hostess with a flair! She greeted everyone with her warmth and genuine love, making them always comfortable and welcome. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Aubrey Cox; her daughter, Crystal Nichols and husband, Clay, of Brownfield; her son, Brandon Cox and wife, Kristen, of Lubbock; her granddaughters, Spring and Kennedy Nichols; grandson, Cooper Cox; her sister, Ruby Mize and husband Ray, of Big Spring; her brother, Don Sutton and wife, Beth, of Cedar Hill; sister-in-law Minnie Reddell and husband, Don of Bryan; nephews, Dan and Jason Rubey, and Stephen Reddell; and nieces, Cindy Lima, Revis Sepanski and Cheryl Dudziak. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law. A heartfelt thank you is extended to all of her friends, doctors and also the staff at Brownfield Regional Medical Center Home Care for their kindness and prayers during her illness. If it is your preference in lieu of flowers, you may send contributions in her memory to Christian Life Church, 1302 Tahoka Road, Brownfield, TX 79316.
