Sylvia was born on August 15, 1933, to Emil and Lucie Mae Bunjes in Galveston, Texas. She married Grady Taylor in 1952 and settled in Lubbock. Sylvia had wonderful careers at Sears and Texas Tech University and, with her dear friend Sue Smith, volunteered with Meals on Wheels for years. Sylvia loved singing and traveling in the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) Chancel Choir for over 50 years as well as performing in many church musical productions. Sylvia also was a longstanding member of the Allegro Music Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Taylor, son, Edward Taylor, and brother, Emil Bunjes, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Adele Bower, her children, Alison Winton and Warren Taylor, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, her family has asked for donations to be made to the FUMC Music Department, https://www.fumc.com/giving, and Meals on Wheels, https://lubbockmealsonwheels.org/donate-info for memorial contributions.

Sylvia was such an icon in our choir at FUMC! I always enjoyed sitting in front of her, because it helped me sing better, AND sing the right notes! And her humorous quips were always refreshing. We've missed her so much since she "retired" from the choir, but we also know that she's now a part of the ultimate choir in heaven! God bless her family and friends!

Sylvia was a beautiful person. I met her at the Women's Club, and I am glad and honored to have met her! May she be singing and dancing with our Lord Jesus!

My travel mate, roommate on Pilgrimage trips, and fellow alto -- I loved her outspoken way with words when they were needed, and I shared her love of music with the ChCh. May she rest in peace and joy. My mom lived just across Slide Rd., and Sylvia was always available to pick her up for concerts and music activities. They shared casserole recipes over the years, and were at Wedgewood in their waning years. I'm sure they're having tea and cookies, as well as a great chat, in Heaven above. Slowly but surely, our Gordon McMillan is assembling his own choir in the glorious ranks above, and Sylvia is there to properly give credibility to the alto section. Deane Pierce, Evelyn and Bob Cash, her dear Sue Lovett, and others welcomed her with open arms and swelling voices! She will rest joyfully from now, reunited with her dear loved ones. Marilyn Murfee
