ALLAN EARL Obituary

JUDGE ALLAN R. EARL It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of The Honorable Allan R. Earl, a great attorney, a well-respected Judge, and most of all, a man of honor and integrity. He passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, March 21, 2018, of renal failure. He was born August 22, 1941, in Washington, D.C., the second oldest of five children. His family moved to Las Vegas when he was about four years old. Allan graduated with honors from Las Vegas High School in 1959. During high school, Allan was a member of the debate team and received numerous awards for his debating and oratory skills. He attended Brigham Young University from 1959 to 1965, when he graduated Cum Laude with his B.A. in Political Science. He attended law school at the University of California, Berkeley Law (Boalt Hall) and was admitted to the Nevada State Bar in October 1968. Allan clerked for Justice John Mowbray at the Nevada Supreme Court for one year in Carson City. He then moved backed to Las Vegas to begin his very long and distinguished career as a renowned attorney and District Court Judge. He worked for the firm of Morse, Graves, Parraguiree and Rose for 14 months before joining the firm of Weiner, Goldwater & Galatz, which later became Galatz & Earl. He practiced law with Neil Galatz for 30 years. Allan was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and died a worthy priesthood holder. In his youth, he received both the Eagle Scout and Duty to God Awards. In 1961, he was called and served an honorable full-time mission for the Church in the Central British Mission. During his adult years, Allan loved his callings as a Gospel Doctrine Teacher and as President of the Stake Sunday School. In September 1995, Allan married Denise Fuson, and they shared their lives together for 18 memorable years. During their married life, Allan enjoyed a wonderful association with the entire Fuson family. After Denise's untimely death in 2013, they were sealed together for time and eternity in the Las Vegas Temple. In 2000, Allan was appointed by Governor Kenny Guinn as the second Judge in Department 19 of the Eighth Judicial District Court, where he served for 14 years, and he was honored to be selected to serve on the Construction Defect Panel. Judge Earl was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Maycock Earl; his father, Rulon A. Earl; his sister, Miriam Tobler; and his soulmate, Denise Earl. He is survived by his brothers, Dr. Robert R. Earl, Stephen C. Earl and Bruce Lemon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him and miss him dearly. Among Judge Earl's favorite pastimes were golf, tennis, skiing and movie-going. He was especially thrilled to be invited to play golf at Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia. Judge Earl lived his life with a deep passion for truth and justice while showing great compassion for others. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed. Viewing will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 6, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Viewing again 8:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, with funeral following at 10 a.m., both at the LDS Chapel, 4340 W. Warm Springs Road. Allan wanted to be sure this obituary included his deep gratitude to all of his relatives, friends, church members and care givers that helped him through the last difficult months of his life.

Words cannot express just how much our beloved Judge meant to me or how missed he truly is. Our time together was prescious to me and from the moment we met, the bond we shared was like no other. I am so grateful to have known him and he will forever be dear to my heart.
For most of the time we spent together over the past few years, it was usually just the two of us and I treasured ever moment. I realize now just how many other wonderful people he had in his life...loving family and friends who are also suffering a terrible loss and are grateful to have had him in their lives.
Thank you to all who knew and loved him and helped make his life more meaningful, especially during the past few months.
His services were absolutely beautiful and I am so thankful to have been there to meet some of his family and friends. I am sure he was pleased and probably had a few chuckles and shed a few tears as he heard all of the loving stories of his life observing from above with his beautiful wife.
I love you, Allan; God bless you and those you have left behind.

My condolences. I had the pleasure of working for Allan and the other attorneys in what was then the Galatz, Earl, Catalano, and Biggar firm in 1982-83. It was my first full-time position after law school, and I was waiting for the next year's bar exam given Nevada's residency (sp?) period. Allan in particular set an example of the kind of lawyer that I wanted to grow into. And in the years to follow, Allan, whenever our paths crossed, continued to encourage me to be a better lawyer and more honorable person. Thank you, Allan. randa

Brilliant on the law. Always fully prepared.
Always unflinchingly fair and neutral. Very civic and community-minded. Always happy to share his knowledge. In other words, the very definition of an ideal judge.
