ANN MCINTOSH Obituary

ANN MCINTOSH Silver Queen Returns to Las Vegas-Ann Boyd McIntosh, of Carlsbad, Calif., passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, three days from her 85th birthday. Ann was born Dec. 21, 1931, in San Diego. Her family moved to Las Vegas, where she attended school and graduated from Las Vegas High School. Ann entered the Miss Las Vegas pageant at 19, where she came in second place. She was hoping to get enough money to attend college, which she did at Western Kentucky University. During her college years, Ann also studied at the Sorbonne University in Paris. Ann returned to Las Vegas, where she began teaching English at Rancho High School. Ann met and married Woodrow "Woody" McIntosh in 1956. Woody was the son of a Las Vegas pioneer, James Otis McIntosh, who in 1906 built the first permanent structure in Las Vegas, The Arizona Club. During World War II, Woody was a flight instructor at Nellis Air Force Base and flew the Hump operation flying supplies from Burma to China. In 1952, Woody, took over ownership of Sky Haven Airport on Rancho Blvd., now known as North Las Vegas Airport. In 1957, Woody and Ann moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil with daughter, Julia, where Jim was born. Ann taught at The Graded School in Sao Paulo and Woody was the company pilot for Jeep. After seven years, Woody was transferred back to the U.S., where they relocated to Bedford, Mich. Ann began teaching English at Bedford High School, where she taught for 23 years, while receiving her master's degree from the University of Toledo. Retiring in 1989, Ann returned back to Las Vegas, where her son, Jim McIntosh, resided. That next year, she entered in the 37th annual Jaycees State Fair, Silver Queen pageant and was crowned the Silver Queen of Nevada. In 2005, Ann moved to Carlsbad to be close to her daughter, Julia. She is survived by her daughter, Julia McIntosh Mink of Carlsbad; and her son, Jim McIntosh, a professional guitarist in Las Vegas; and daughter-in-law, Carol Cali-McIntosh. Once again, the Silver Queen has now returned to Las Vegas, where she will be laid to rest at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1500 Las Vegas Blvd. N.

Julie and Jim, So sorry for the loss of your Mother. She was an excellent teacher, she inspired me to be a better student. i will never forget she gave me an A on a poem I wrote and put it up on the board, such a proud moment for a young girl! I always imagined this beautiful, elegant woman sitting in a cafe in Paris!

I met Ann in 1969, when I also met her daughter Julia, and her son Jim. She was erudite, had a wry wit, and was stunningly beautiful. Her obituary was also beautiful.

She was also very kind to me, always welcoming me into her home [and trying to feed me], much to the embarrassment of Julia! Though it has been years since I have seen Ann, I will miss her and remember her with very fond memories. May she rest in peace.

I will always have so many fond memories of Mrs. McIntosh. She was like a second mother to me. I still get a laugh when I think of how she would remind me' in her class that both Julia and I needed haircuts, or to tell me that wearing blue jeans each day was not acceptable. She was a brilliant and fascinating woman and many, especially in Bedford Twp., Michigan, will mourn her passing.
