Carlos Leija Obituary

MSGT. CARLOS LEIJA JR. U.S. Air Force, Retired Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Carlos Insall Leija Jr., 78, of Las Vegas, passed away April 10, 2010. He was born Dec. 30, 1931, to Carlos and Anita Leija, in San Antonio, and was a 34-year resident of Nevada. Carlos served his country as a 24-year veteran in the U.S. Air Force while stationed at Nellis AFB. He met the love of his life, Ramona, while in elementary school and they shared their life for 55 years. Carlos continued his employment, and later retired, with Reynolds Electric and Engineering Company. He was known for his supportive nature and his love for family. His favorite hobby was genealogical research on the Leija family name. He was a devoted father who dedicated himself to his children who adored him. Carlos is survived by his wife, Ramona; daughters, Janie Yarberry, Linda Bubel, Julie Cannon, Lisa McAllister, Gloria Okelberry and Monica Bean; sons, Ricardo Leija and Armando Leija; brother, Armando; sister, Rachel; and grandchildren, Jake Yarberry, Jessica Mireles, Christopher Bubel, Courtney Cannon, Camille Cannon, Clark Cannon, Monica McAllister, Cristina McAllister, Bruce McAllister, Brian Spicer, Jackie Spicer, Rebecca Okelberry, George Bean, Carlos Bean, Mia Bean, Jazmine Leija and Roman Leija. Viewing will be 2-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at St. Viator Catholic Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road. Graveside services will be at noon Thursday, April 15, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City.
