My symapthises go out to his family and loved ones, I was the manager for Spoon on his Southeastern Community College team from 1978-1980. Dear Spoonhour family,
Coach Spoonhour was our coach at Rocky Comfort High School in 1961. Yes, he did indeed drive our teams to games. One summer he even drove the bus to take students to swimming lessons at Bella Vista. He was an extraordinary person who was a tremendous influence on the students at our school. I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

As a fan of Missouri State I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the entire Spoonhour family. Coach Spoonhour was such a special person and such an ambassador of then SMSU that he will never be forgotten. I remember a saying of his that went something like this...if all you had was 50 cents and potential, all you could get is a coke, you have to work hard to make that potential worth anything. Charlie made it sound funnier and better. Glad he got to see "our St. Louis Cardinals" win the World Series before he passed. See you in heaven Coach.

Dear Vicki,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss and America's loss. Spoon was truly an American treasure.
I'll always remember the great time we had the first time we met at Ed Janka's summer party years ago when I drove you and Spoon back to your hotel after the party and we stopped for a nightcap and ended up watching the sun come up.Every time subsequent to that first meeting, whenever he visited Cleveland, we would get together. He always treated my like a close friend and I really valued his company and especially his friendship.I'll be hoisting a Bud longneck in his honor today.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Best regards,
Jack Rusnov

My condolences and prayers go out to Vicki and all the Spoonhour families. What a great life Charlie had.

Charlie and I grew up together in Rogers. He was our basketball manager my senior year at RHS. I called him Spoonie then. He called me Terrible Teddy. Charlie was always antagonizing us someway or another. One day after practice a bunch of us got one of the large ball bags and stuffed him into it. Then we hung him on the shower head and turned the cold water on. Boy! We paid for it when we got him down. I felt sorry for him afterwards.

I ate a lot of suppers at the Spoonhour house during basketball season. Irma and Claude were special people. I lived on a farm several miles from school. Charlie would take me home on game days after school and Irma would provide something to eat.

Charlie left a legacy beyond compare. We have all been blessed in knowing him in our early days. God rest his soul and may God bless all his family.

Vicki, Bird, and Bear. It has been so long since I saw any of you but you have all been in my prayers since I first heard about Coach Spoon and his disease. Charlie touched everyone he met. Few people in life have a legacy like Coach Spoon's. I know this is hard, loss always is, but Charlie will live on through all the lives he touched. It doesn't make your pain less but I pray each of you find peace and joy as these days pass in knowing how much he meant to so many. To each of you, Love Shella

I started following Charlie when he was at SMS, and was thrilled when he took over the SLU program. Getting lucky enough to hear a interview or post game talk show was always a treat. I felt like Spoon was a friend even though I never had the opportunity to meet him in person. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. I would love to see SLU honor Charlie for bringing the program back to relevance.
