Emma Rosenfeld Obituary

Emma Louise Rosenfeld, of Las Vegas, died at home February 7 of COVID-19 complications. She was 88.

Mrs. Rosenfeld was born Emma Louise James on February 28, 1932, in Collingswood, N.J. She is survived by three children: Erik Rosenfeld, of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; Beth Rosenfeld, of Alexandria, Va.; and Steven Rosenfeld, of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, and Hannah. Preceding her in death were her husband of 53 years, Mitchell, and four sisters.

A long-time resident of the Philadelphia/South Jersey area, Mrs. Rosenfeld served as a sales associate, model, and assistant buyer at the now-defunct Philadelphia department store Strawbridge & Clothier and as a volunteer Girl Scout troop leader in Norristown, Pa. After the family moved to McLean, Va., she assisted teachers by volunteering as an aide at her children’s elementary school. Emma and Mitch retired in Florida.

An independent, intelligent, and well-read woman, Mrs. Rosenfeld made friends anywhere she went. A fervent fan of all animals, she especially loved her family’s dogs, rabbits, and hamsters. At assisted living, she cheerily served beverages to her fellow residents as hostess of the weekly happy hour.

Mrs. Rosenfeld’s kind, generous, and gentle nature was evident to all who knew her. That nature was exemplified by the warm expression she used to describe her outlook on life: “Be nice.” Services are pending in Philadelphia.
