1925 - 2014

FREDERICK MORGAN Frederick A. Morgan, of Las Vegas, passed away Dec. 30, 2014. He was born Jan. 7, 1925, in Sacramento, Calif., to his parents, Anna Vanderweg and H. Ray Morgan. After graduating from Queen Anne High School in Seattle, in 1944, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corps. After World War II, the U.S. Army Air Corps became the U.S. Air Force. Once he passed basic training, he trained as a radio operator, a role that would become crucial in the war. He went by ship from the United States to Northern Africa. When the entire ship was quarantined for three weeks, it was very hot and the men cooled off in the ocean. After the quarantine was lifted, his mission sent him to Italy. There he excelled at his job as a radio operator and received several commendations for his work. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He then enrolled in the University of Washington in Seattle, where he earned a degree in political science. He was employed by the Social Security Administration and moved to Elko, where he met his future wife, Frieda A. Boyer. They were married in Indiana in 1957 and immediately moved to San Jose, Calif. He was promoted many times throughout his career with the SSA and with each promotion came a move to another city. He eventually arrived in Las Vegas in 1974, where he retired as manager. He then became the director of the Foster Grandparents organization, where he was employed for approximately 15 years. He enjoyed a quiet retirement He loved history and he enjoyed taking the family's Boston Terriers for walks in the early morning hours. He is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Frieda Boyer Morgan; three children, Charles Frederick Morgan, Laura Adelaide Morgan and Margaret Morgan-Bouche; and one grandchild, Samuel Frederick Morgan. He will be missed dearly by his family until they are reunited in Heaven. Visitation will be 10:30-11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, with services following, both at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside service following at 1:20 p.m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Boulder City.
