FROIM SASS Obituary

FROIM SASS Froim "Fred" Sass, 76, of Las Vegas, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, surrounded by those that loved him so dearly. Fred, as he was known to friends and family, was born May 4, 1938, in Poland, to Max and Cila Sass. Fred was a Holocaust survivor and came to America as a young boy through Ellis Island. He settled into his new life in Boston until 1978, when he moved to Las Vegas. He began his career as a young man on his parent's egg farm. Fred kept that entrepreneurial spirit throughout his life and retired from a long and successful career as a real estate investor. Fred is remembered for his kindness and his overwhelming generosity. He prided himself on helping the less fortunate and there were many that crossed his path. He was a man of faith and trusted in his Jewish religious beliefs and was a founding member of the Chabad of Southern Nevada. He loved spending time with his family at his home in Newport Beach, Calif., riding his bike, visiting with friends, enjoying the sunshine and blue skies. Fred was preceded in death by his sons, Steven Sass and David Sass; his daughter, Sarah Sass; his son, Harvey Sass; and his daughter, Rhonda Dober. He is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Sandra Sass; his daughters, Sonya Haggerty and Suzanne Gruchy; his seven grandchildren, Lauri Sass, Harvey Tadmor, Sarah Tadmor, Jhonna Dober, Max Sass, Ryan Haggerty and Abigail Haggerty; four great-grandchildren, Steven Dipietro, Samuel Dipietro, Nathan Dipietro and Lincoln Tadmor; and his loving extended family that range from Massachusetts to California. Funeral services were previously held Friday, Feb. 20, at King David Cemetery, 2697 E. Eldorado Lane. Donations may be made in his honor at the Jewish National Fund for Israel Forever, (800) 542-TREE (8733), or the Chabad of Southern Nevada.

I did not know Fred or his family. I came to their door as a stranger and was invited in and asked to share their lunch. This was an unexpected kindness from what has to be a loving family. Thank you. I am so sorry for your pain but as he left you I can only think that there were open arms joyously welcoming him home.
