Gerald Modena Obituary

GERALD MODENA Gerald "Jerry" Modena, 69, a retired transit supervisor, of Henderson, passed away July 16, 2010. Jerry retired from San Francisco Muni Railway after 28 years of employment. He met his wife, Fern, on the job and they got married 32 years ago on a 1912 Streetcar. Photography was always one of his hobbies and he loved taking pictures of flowers and cars. He and Fern moved to Sun City Anthem in 2004, where Jerry joined Channel 99 as a videographer, director and editor. He loved going on shoots, especially the ones to the Bellagio Conservatory and Chef Stu's. Among the other shoots he did was a special one where he got to go up in an airship and cruise the Strip, taking video. His Channel 99 friends were family to him and Fern. He also belonged to Community Service Club and Security Club, and played bocce. A gourmet chef, Jerry loved to be in the kitchen and have friends over, especially for Thanksgiving. Jerry will be missed by many. Jerry is survived by his wife, Fern Modena; children, Mark Modena (Reba), Matthew Modena, Beth Peacock and Jennifer Modena, all of California; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A celebration of Jerry's life will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Independence Center, 2460 Hampton Road, Henderson, NV 89052. Donations can be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89119.
