1980 - 2018

JAMES GURR James Edward Gurr, age 37, beloved son, brother and uncle, passed away suddenly March 20, 2018, in Las Vegas. He was born May 23, 1980, in Ely, to Steven Kent Gurr and Marla Mouritsen Gurr, joining older brothers, Samuel and Jerimiah. He moved to Las Vegas with his mother, brothers and sister, Elizabeth, in 1987. He was a 1998 graduate of Valley High School. His laugh was unmistakable to recognize and he loved to laugh a lot. His first loyalty was always to his family and they were as equally loyal to him. Like many in his family, James loved to read and loved discussing books. He was very opinionated and liked to share those opinions even with those who didn't want to hear them. He was inspired by his younger sister's graduation from UNLV and began taking classes working toward a degree in anthropology. James enjoyed his job and was a long-time employee of Office Depot and Office Max. His funny stories of work will be missed by all. He had a unique sense of humor and inherited his Grandpa Mouritsen's epic storytelling skills. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mary Mouritsen of Meridian, Idaho; and grandfather, Kent Gurr of McGill. He is survived by his father, Steven Gurr (Sharon) of Loa, Utah; mother, Marla VanPut (Patrick) of Las Vegas; grandfather, Lamar Mouritsen (Wanda Rae) of Meridian, Idaho; grandmother, Bonnie Gurr of McGill; brothers, Samuel Gurr and Jerimiah Gurr; sister, Elizabeth Chapson of Las Vegas; brother, Jeff Gurr of Escalante, Utah; sister, Julie Durfey of Bicknell, Utah; niece and nephew, Emilee and Clark Chapson of Las Vegas; nieces and nephew Tannyr, Shantel, Autum and Kenyon Gurr of Escalante, Utah; niece, Destiny Durfey of Bucknell, Utah; stepbrother, Ryan VanPut of Utah; stepsisters, Lauren Bloxham of Utah, and Magin VanPut of Alaska; and many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. Celebrations of James' life service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Sunset Park. As with the way James lived his life, accepting and without pretense, come as you are and share our happy and funny memories of our beloved James with us. Burial will be at Bramwell Cemetery in Emmett, Idaho.
