JAY EGAN Obituary

JAY EGAN SR. Jay Patrick Egan Sr., 59, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, July 28, 2013, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Jay was born to the late Joseph and Joan Egan (nee McGuire), in Highland, Wis. Shortly after serving time in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne, Jay migrated west to Las Vegas, where he resided for nearly 35 years. Jay enjoyed staying active with the Boy Scouts of America, where he and his three sons were involved for the past 20 years. He was also a long-time cigar aficionado and loved riding his Harley. As expected, he was also a diehard Green Bay Packers fan. Jay spent the past 13 years working in surveillance at the Planet Hollywood. Jay is survived by his loving wife, Editha Egan; daughter, Joey Egan; three sons, Jay II, Jacob and Joshua Egan; four brothers, Jan, John, Joel and Jim Egan; four sisters, Joann, Jennifer and Jane Egan, and Jill Porter; and cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation for Jay will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Church services will be at noon Friday, Aug. 2, at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 1901 S. Maryland Parkway.

My Dear Brother Jay, you will be greatly missed and my condolence to all your family and friends. I've always felt you were my brother, ever since you beat up my brother Nick in second grade and then became his lifelong friend. He says he got the best of you but I can't imagine that happening. I realize Nick was forced to bring me on all your escapades but it was certainly a fun ride as we shared many laughs and mistakes together. You grew into a tremendous man, husband, and father and I'm so proud to call you my brother. When our mom passed, you were right there honoring her life and the tattoo (Mrs. Olivia May- MOM) really put into perspective the huge part of her heart that was devoted to Jay Egan and all your brothers and sisters. While we have all come a long way from that little town of Highland, one of my fondest memories was the special bond of all big families in Highland which certainly had a quite a few. You were at the top of her list and as you reunite with your parents and mine in heaven, please say hello and watch over us here on earth. We will be together again soon.

Uncle Jay was more than just my Uncle. I grew up with him in my life almost daily. He was a big brother, he was a friend, he was a father and my Uncle all in one. He always had a light that could make anyone smile no matter what! He loved his family more than anything in the world. No day will go by that I won't think of you. A part of my heart went with you...I love you and always will!
