JOHN TOBIN Obituary

JOHN TOBIN John "Jim" Tobin, of Las Vegas, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013. Jim was born Oct. 10, 1935, to Thomas and Agnes Tobin, in Omaha, Neb. After attending Creighton Preparatory High School in Omaha, he served in the U.S. Army in Georgia, then in Germany. After being honorably discharged from the military, Jim moved with his now deceased brother, Tom, to Phoenix, where the two of them owned a bar called, "The Totem Pole." The two brothers later sold the bar and relocated to Los Angeles. While working in the insurance industry in the 1960's, they both earned law degrees from Van Norman Law School in Los Angeles. They subsequently passed the California Bar Examination and became lawyers. After several years of practice, in 1972, Jim became a founding partner of a law firm for some 20 years. Due to medical issues, he was forced to retire from his practice in 1992, relocating in 1998, with his wife, Linda, to Las Vegas. Jim loved America and worked hard to ensure that others understood the importance of various issues on both the local and national scene. The family maintains a vast collection of his "Letters to the Editor" of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, as well as his priceless "pearls of wisdom" directed to those politicians and leaders whom he felt could benefit from his guidance. Jim devoted himself to helping everyone who knew him by offering positive and inspirational advice or as we like to say, "Tobinisms." He was an original in every way possible. He is survived by his wife, Linda Marshall; and two sons, Michael and Patrick. Jim Tobin the father, husband, mentor, partner, co-worker and friend will be dearly missed. Services will be private.
