Katherine Lyden Obituary

KATHERINE LYDEN Katherine "Katie" Lyden, 33, a special education teacher, passed away July 21, 2010, due to natural causes. She was born March 24, 1977, in Warren, Ohio, and was a 13-year resident of Las Vegas. Katie was described by all as a kind-hearted, non-judgmental, and compassionate person who loved working with her special needs students. She loved the arts, animals and was an avid reader. She received a BA in criminal justice in 1998, and a master of education in 2001 from University of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Catherine and Andrew Kurdila; paternal grandparents, Mary Catherine and William Lyden; uncle, Gerald Kurdila; cousin, Ryan Kurdila; and David Lucas, a close family friend. She is survived by her fiance, John Clark; parents, David and Helen Lyden; sisters, Andrea (Frank) Monto and Jennifer (Don) Dermer; five nieces, Marisa and Emma Dermer, Isabella, Olivia and Alaina Monto; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be a memorial Mass service at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. A small reception will follow immediately after memorial Mass.
