Lucile Ray Obituary

LUCILE RAY Lucile Marguerite Ray, 79, of Las Vegas, passed away Feb. 12, 2010. She was born Sept. 13, 1930, in Hiko, Nev., and grew up in Las Vegas, graduating from Las Vegas High School in 1948. Lucile married Marvin Ray that same year, Aug. 12, 1948, at First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Las Vegas. She had been a member of that church for 65 years. She was also a member of the Las Vegas Iris Society and the Southern Nevada Iris Society for over 50 years. Lucile loved her home, of more than 40 years, that she and Marvin built together, with her flower beds that were filled with over 100 varieties of Iris. She won many awards for her Irises throughout the 60 years she grew them. Lucile was a fabulous baker and candy maker, and loved sharing with her family and friends. She was proud of her Swiss heritage, as her parents immigrated from Switzerland to Nevada in 1928. She worked for Davis Nursery for many years and was also a bus driver for Las Vegas Day School. She was also very proud, and always talking about, her son, Michael's construction business and the fact that both her other children, Michelle and Scotty, were some of his key employees. Lucile was always in the first row of the stands of the local racetrack -- watching Michael and his sons race stock cars, thunder roadsters and bandelors. She loved and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always remembering every birthday and Christmas with a special thoughtful gift. Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Verena Hermenjat; and sister, Yvonne Pond. She is survived by her husband, of 61 years, Marvin; son, Michael Ray (Debbie); daughter, Michelle Hill (Mike); son, Scott Ray (Patti); sister, Annette McCarthy (John); sister-in-law, Paddy Ray; grandchildren, Stephen Ray (Trena), Jonathan Ray (Katie), Zachary Hill, Karlie Hill, William Ray, Shane Ray and Amber Ray; great-grandchildren, Gavin Ray, Colton Ray, Matthew Ray and Mallory Ray; and many nieces and nephews. Viewing will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, with funeral services following, both at First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 301 S. Maryland Parkway. Donations can be made to the Disabled Veterans Charities. "Lucile was loved and will always be loved."

Very sad news. A great woman! I can remember driving by the house over the years and nearly always seeing her working in her yard or just quietly sitting in her chair enjoying the sunshine. Wow, the things she has seen in that neighborhood over the years! Condolences to Marvin, Michelle, Mike, & Scotty and the rest of the family. So sorry for your loss.
